AACCUP visits 4 college programs

The Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) conducted the survey visit to four curricular programs offered by the College of Engineering and Information Technology on 12-14 December 2012.

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering program was re-visited in the areas of Curriculum, Library, and Administration for its third survey. The Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering program was evaluated for second survey visit to qualify for Level II Re-Accredited status.  Meanwhile, the Electrical Engineering and Office Administration programs were subjected to first survey visit to qualify for Level I Accredited status.

To date, the College has a total of seven accredited programs and two programs under candidate status.

CEIT finalizes strategic plan

The officials, faculty and staff of the College of Engineering and Information Technology convened  for its Strategic Planning Workshop on 29 November 2012.  The chairpersons of the five departments, head of the University Computer Center and coordinators for Research, Development and Extension, and Quality Assurance and Accreditation presented their respective plans for the period 2012 to 2020. The group critiqued the presentations and included in the plan strategies addressing the anticipated changes brought about by vertical articulation, accreditation of engineering programs, and compliance to the minimum standards set by the Commission on Higher Education.

The final output will be presented by Dean Aileen V. Rocillo to the University Administrative Council.

8 graduates pass CE board exam

The College of Engineering and Information Technology congratulates its eight graduates who passed the Civil Engineer Licensure Examination given on 24-25 November 2012 by the Board of Civil Engineering of the Professional Regulation Commission. The successful examinees are:

Cavite State University obtained 44.44 percent passing (8 out of 18 examinees) against the national passing rate of 41.41 percent (2,380 out of 5,747).

Seminar on TOS conducted

DCEE faculty prepare their table of specifications.
The College of Engineering and Information Technology conducted as part of its monthly seminar series the Seminar on Table of Specifications (TOS) at the College Conference Room on 22 November 2012.  The seminar aimed to refresh the faculty on the preparation of tables of specifications prior to making the examination.

Engr. Renato B. Cubilla, professor from the Department of Civil Engineering (host of the activity), gave a short lecture which was followed by a workshop.  Each department presented the TOS on their chosen subject.  At the end of the presentations, the college came up with a standard format for the submission of TOS.

It may be recalled that the college had its first seminar on TOS with the former dean of the College of Education Dr. Ma. Agnes P. Nuestro (now the VP for Academic Affairs) as resource person on 18 February 2010.

Local PAEStigan held

The Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering sponsored the CEIT PAEStigan at the College Conference Room on 21 November 2012.  The activity aimed to promote awareness among the senior agricultural engineering students about the Philippine Agricultural Engineering Standards (PAES) and to select the official contestants of the university to the Inter-Luzon State Colleges and Universities PAES Quiz Contest to be held in January at the University of the Philippines Los Baños, College, Laguna.

The local contest simulated the types of questions given in the national contest: written examination for the first round and oral phase for the average and difficult rounds. Annalyn B. Encarnacion (3rd place), Ronnie F. Mercado (2nd place) and Reynaldo V. Villanueva Jr. (1st place) received cash prizes and certificates.

Engr. Ervin F. Papa, coordinator of the activity, announced that Gee Jay C. Bartolome and Claudine May P. Gomez (top two scorers in the written examination round) and Reynaldo V. Villanueva Jr. (top scorer in the problem solving round) would represent the university in the national contest.

DIET conducts training to OSYs

The Department of Industrial Engineering and Technology conducted a training for the out-of-school youth of Barangay Alulod, Indang, Cavite on 22-25 October 2012.  The activity aimed to provide the target clientele with the necessary skills and knowledge in the field of electrical, electronics and automotive technology to make them more productive and competitive.

Sixty out-of-school youth from the barangay trained on basic automotive gas engine mechanic, welding fabrication, building wiring installation, and basic consumer electronics. The faculty and staff of the department facilitated the lecture and hands-on sessions.

The training is part of the extension program of the department for Barangay Alulod.

Mojica wins research awards

Dr. Ruel M. Mojica won first place for his research entitled "Influence of Roasting on Total Phenolic Content and Antioxidant Properties of Philippine Coffee" during the 25th Regional Symposium on Research and Development Highlights held at the Cultural Center, Provincial Capitol, Sta. Cruz, Laguna on 24 October 2012. The same research also won third place under the poster category.

Meanwhile, researches entitled “Design and Development of an Automated Bucket Drip Irrigation and Fertigation System” by Engr. A. D. Amante (Batangas State University) and “Construction and Validation of Automated Pandan Stripping Machine” by Mr. Candido Absulio (Southern Luzon State University) were adjudged as second and third place, respectively.

The regional symposium was sponsored by the Southern Tagalog  Agriculture and Resources Research and Development Consortium (STARRDEC). (GMCastillo)

New Electronics Engineers

The College of Engineering and Information Technology congratulates its three graduates who passed the Registered Electronics Engineer Licensure Examination given on 20-21 October 2012 by the Board of Electronics Engineering of the Professional Regulation Commission. The successful examinees are:

  3. Mopia, Mabelle Bernardo 
Cavite State University registered 33.33% (3 out of 9 examinees) against the national passing rate of 51.57%.

NBC 461 seminar conducted

The College of Engineering and Information Technology conducted an echo-seminar on The Revised Guidelines of the National Budget Circular (NBC) No. 461 at the CEIT Conference Room  on 4 October 2012. The seminar aimed to update the regular faculty of the college on the point system and documentary requirements of the evaluation.

Dr. Marilyn M. Escobar, coordinator  for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of the college, discussed the revised guidelines on Common Criteria for Evaluation (CCE) while Dr. Leyma L. Cero, College MIS officer, explained the Qualitative Contribution Evaluation (QCE). The two professors together with Dr. Camilo A. Polinga compose the NBC 461 Evaluation Committee of the college.

  • Senior industrial engineering students attended the Forum on Healthcare: Application of Mathematical Modeling and Quantitative Methods in Improving Healthcare Decision Making at Leong Hall, Loyola Schools, Ateneo de Manila University, Loyola Heights, Quezon City on 25 August 2012. The forum was sponsored by the Operations Research Society of the Philippines.
  • Senior industrial engineering students attended the Symposium on Air Pollution and Worker Safety at Mapua Institute of Technology - Makati on 27 August 2012. The symposium was sponsored by the Human Factor/ Ergonomics Society of the Philippines.


  • All industrial engineering students attended the 4th Southern Tagalog Industrial Engineering Seminar at UP Los Banos on 1 September 2012. The CvSU Chapter won first place in the Poster Making Contest.

Plant visit conducted

The faculty and students of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Technology headed by Mr. Willie C. Buclatin conducted a plant visit to TDK Philippines, HINO Philippines and National Grid Corp. in Laguna on 20 September 2012. The visit aimed to help the students to fully visualize the operations involved within different industrial firms. Their exposure to various industrial operations helped in  identifying particular areas in industrial engineering and technology that need to be strengthened to be more competitive.

ERDT roadshow to CvSU


Five faculty members from the Institute of Agricultural Engineering (IAE), College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology, University of the Philippines – Los Baños (UPLB) headed by Dr. Ronaldo B. Saludes, conducted a roadshow on Engineering Research for Development Technology (ERDT) at the College of Engineering and Information Technology,  Cavite State University on 20 September 2012. CEIT Dean Aileen V. Rocillo together with the students and faculty members of the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering attended the event.

The roadshow aimed to orient the faculty and students on ERDT programs especially on scholarship and the four divisions of IAE. The ERDT program is a Human Resource Development program administered by the Department of Science and Technology. (GMCastillo)

The College of Engineering and Information Technology congratulates six of its graduates who passed the Registered Electrical Engineer Licensure Examination given on 8-9 September 2012 by the Board of Electrical Engineering of the Professional Regulation Commission, namely:

Seminar on NIR spectroscopy conducted

Dr. Jasper G. Tallada discussed Exploiting the Invisible: Near-infrared Spectroscopy Applications to Philippine Agriculture on         11 September 2012 at the Conference Room of the National Coffee Research, Development and Extension Center (NCRDEC), Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite.  Select faculty members and staff from related disciplines attended the seminar which focused on the science and technology behind NIR spectroscopy and its current and potential applications to agriculture and other industries.

Dr. Tallada is an assistant professor from the College of Engineering and Information Technology and the project leader on developing an NIR spectroscopy instrument which is funded by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD).

Korean Visitors

Representatives from Jeollabukdo Office of Education, Republic of Korea headed by Mr. Choi Dong Ham visited the College of Engineering and Information Technology on 28 August 2012.   VP for Academic Affairs Dr. Ma. Agnes P. Nuestro, VP for Administrative and Support Services Dr. Hernando D. Robles, Dean Aileen V. Rocillo and other college officials warmly welcomed the delegation accompanied by Ms. Annie Tacazon from the Provincial Government of Cavite.

After the presentation of CvSU's programs, the group donated a laptop computer to the university and then toured the ICT facilities of the college. The visit is in relation to the ICT Program between the Jeollabukdo Office of Education, Republic of Korea and the Province of Cavite which consists of training of ICT educators and donation of computers to selected public high schools in Cavite.

New professional agricultural engineers

Four graduates of Cavite State University passed the Agricultural Engineer Licensure Examination given on 21-22 August 2012. They are Kelvin Michael A. Crystal, Sherwin A. Malabrigo, Analyn G. Sagana and Loriel C. Yala.

A total of 253 out of 530 passed the examination given by the Board of Agricultural Engineering of the Professional Regulation Commission in the cities of Manila, Baguio and Davao.

  • The CEIT Student Council held an Acquaintance Party at CvSU Quadrangle on 5 July 2012.  The event was participated by all the student organizations in the college.
  • Four Philippine Institue of Civil Engineers (PICE) CvSU – SC members, namely:  Renz Erick R. Delgado, Aura Karissa N. Alcantara, Jully Ann A. Galotos and Adrian Lynard C. Martinez,  assisted the PICE Cavite Chapter in hosting the 3rd Golf Tournament at the Eagle Ridge Golf Course in Gen. Trias, Cavite on 6 July 2012. 
  • PICE CvSU- SC members attended the 2012 National Science and Technology Week sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) on 13 July 13 2012 at the SMX Convention, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City. The students viewed the exhibit of winning inventions from various schools and the technologies and experiment results conducted by different agencies and schools.
  • Senior Industrial Engineering students attended the Symposium on Air Pollution and Worker Safety at the Mapua Institute of Technology, Makati on 27 July 2012. 
  • Junior and senior Electronics and Communications Engineering students attended the Symposium on Robotics, Cloud Computing at the Lyceum of the Philippines University-Cavite on 28 July 2012. 
  • Office Administration sophomores and seniors attended the Stress and Time Management Seminar at the Philippine Trade Training Center (PTTC) on 10 August 2012.
  • Office Administration students led by Ms.  Jo-Anne C. Nuestro conducted an exposure trip to the Regional Trial Court, F. Zobel, Makati City to experience actual case hearing, and the Senate of the Philippines, Pasay City for the 10th session meeting about the RH Bill on 15 August 2012.
  • The Electrical Engineering Student Chapter of Cavite State University – Main Campus bagged the first place during the 2nd Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers (IIEE) –Cavite Student Chapter EELYMPICS on 18-19 August 2012 at CvSU, Indang, Cavite. Five teams coming from the Technological University of the Philippines – Cavite, Polytechnic University of the Philippines – Maragondon, Lyceum of the Philippines – Cavite and Cavite State University – Rosario and Main Campus competed in the various events.

  • Engr. Larry E. Rocela, instructor from the Department of Civil Engineering, participated in the Training and Capacity Building Programme on Seismic Strengthening for Master Trainers in Luzon, Philippines at the  National Engineering Center, U.P. Diliman, Quezon City on 30 July to 2 August 2012.
  • Ms. Jo-Anne C. Nuestro, instructor from the Department of Information Technology, attended the Stress and Time Management Seminar at the Philippine Trade Training Center (PTTC) on 10 August 2012.
  • Mr. Willie Buclatin served as resource speaker in the Seminar on IExplore: Experiences, Challenges and Career at the Lyceum of the Philippines University - Cavite on 17 August 2012.

Architects attend induction

The Architecture faculty members of the College attended the 18th United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) – Cavite Chapter Induction of Officers and New Members at Palmer and Player Hall, Orchard Golf and Country Club, City of Dasmariñas, Cavite on 12 August 2012.

Architects Epitacio A. Olegario Jr., Elda Magna Guinto-Libut, and Arsol Arcilla were elected auditor, assistant secretary and Midland Area director, respectively. Architect Abigail A. Rustique, the first architect who graduated from CvSU, was also inducted as new member and was pinned by Architect Libut.

DCE conducts meeting with barangay officials


The Department of Civil Engineering, headed by Engr. Marcelino A. Dagasdas Jr., conducted a meeting with the officials of Barangay Alulod, Indang, Cavite led by Chairman Norberto S. Ersando on 9 July 2012. They discussed the services that could be rendered by the University thru the department and assessed the needs for the improvement of the facilities of the barangay particularly its barangay hall. Some civil engineering students assisted in measuring the existing physical facilities of the barangay.

Seminar on thesis writing conducted


The College of Engineering and Information Technology conducted the Seminar on CvSU Thesis Writing Form and Style on 16 August 2012 at the CEIT Conference Room with Dr. Cecilia F. Genuino as resource speaker.

The activity aimed to orient the faculty members of the college, particularly the thesis advisers and technical critics, on the new Student Guide in Manuscript Preparation. The guide, which was edited by Dr. Genuino, was approved by the Board of Regents on 8 March 2012.

Extension projects formulated for Barangay Alulod


The College of Engineering and Information Technology conducted the Extension Project Formulation and Writeshop for Barangay Alulod, Indang, Cavite on 12 July 2012 at the Learning Resource Center, CvSU.  The writeshop aimed to come up with extension projects that address the needs of the barangay.  Alulod was selected as the recipient barangay after a series of consultation meetings with the LGU officials of Indang and of the barangay last summer. A community needs assessment was conducted in the barangay in May 2012.

Dean Aileen V. Rocillo welcomed the 20 participants consisting of department heads, unit RDE coordinators, student representative, and selected faculty. Alulod Chairman Norberto Ersando and Councilor Federico Morales represented the barangay.

Extension Director Dr. Teddy F. Tepora discussed the extension program of the University and Dr. Marilyn M. Escobar, College Quality Assurance coordinator, presented the highlights of the Community Needs Assessment for Barangay Alulod. The participants were then grouped into three for the conceptualization of extension projects based on the listed priority needs of the barangay which were critiqued at the end of the writeshop. The group agreed to finalize the extension program and for each department to take the lead in implementing projects along their expertise.

Faculty and staff orientation program conducted

The College of Engineering and Information Technology held its annual faculty and staff orientation program on 28 June 2012 at the CEIT Conference Room.

Dean Aileen V. Rocillo formally welcomed the newly hired faculty members of the college.  She said that the activity aimed to orient not only the new ones but also to refresh the old ones about the academic policies and guidelines of the college.

The unit heads introduced the faculty of their respective departments/units.  Topics discussed include the duties and responsibilities of academic advisers, thesis advisers and technical critics, grading system, proper decorum for teachers and staff, and accreditation. An open forum followed to clarify some issues and concerns of the faculty and staff.

Mojica, Castillo bag research awards

Dr. Ruel M. Mojica received the "Best Paper" and "Best Poster" awards for his research "Influence of Roasting on Total Phenolic Content and Antioxidant Properties of Philippine Coffee" during the closing ceremony of the 2012 Agency In-House Review of Cavite State University at the Rolle Hall on 28 June 2012. Meanwhile, Mr. Gerry M. Castillo won the "Best Paper" award in the Development Category for his research "Development of Liberica-based Coffee Blends".

Dr. Mojica and Mr. Castillo are faculty members of the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering. The former is the officer-in-charge of the National Coffee Research, Development and Extension Center based in CvSU.

CEIT hosts Pahiyang 2012

The College of Engineering and Information Technology and CvSU-Imus Campus hosted the University's annual Pahiyang on 14 June 2012 at the University Quadrangle.  This year's theme was "Taon ng Pagpapala at Pagkakaisa".  Presentations from the different colleges and campuses of the University highlighted the event. Around 1,500 faculty and staff came and had fun in their "wild, wild west outfits".


Pahiyang means "good start" as the University  faces a new school year.

PCAARRD donates training sets to CvSU

Director Rodolfo O. Ilao of the Agricultural Resources Management Research Division of PCAARRD donated five sets of microcontroller trainer and five units of Arduino microcontroller to Vice President for RECETS Dr. Alejandro C. CEIT hosts training on precision agriculture, smart farming

Cavite State University, through the College of Engineering and Information Technology headed by Dean Aileen V. Rocillo, hosted the Training on Design, Tools and Techniques for Precision Agriculture/Smart Farming on 4-8 June 2012 at the Hostel Tropicana, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. The training, which was sponsored by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development, aimed to provide the researcher-participants with knowledge and skills on the use of existing tools and techniques to S&T projects especially in the agriculture, aquaculture and natural resources sectors.

Among the 20 participants from eight regions in the country representing the academe (SUCs and private) and national agencies under the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Science and Technology, four came from the University, namely: Prof. Beng P. Umali (CAFENR) and Engrs. Michael T. Costa, Edwin R. Arboleda and Efren R. Rocillo from CEIT.

Polinga designated PICRO director

Dr. Camilo A. Polinga, chairman of the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering, was recently designated as director of Public Information and Community Relations Office (PICRO) of Cavite State University.

Dr. Polinga is also the manager of the Regional Information and Communications Technology Center (RICT) based at the College of Engineering and Information Technology.

New Licensed Civil Engineers

The College of Engineering and Information Technology congratulates three of its graduates for passing the Civil Engineer Licensure Examination given by the Professional Regulation Commission on 6-7 May 2012, namely: Josh V. Buenaventura, Danstan G. Javier and Michael R. Tapawan.

A total of 1,130 out of 3,317 (34.07%) passed the professional examination given in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo and Legazpi.

Needs assessment conducted

More than 50 faculty members and on-the-job training (OJT) students of the College of Engineering and Information Technology went to Barangay Alulod in Indang, Cavite to conduct the community needs assessment on 9 May 2012. The activity aimed to determine the profile and needs of the barangay so the College could design extension activities that would truly address the needs of the community.

The group was divided into eight teams to cover the six puroks and two big sitios of the barangay.  Each team was accompanied by a barangay kagawad or tanod.  Dr. David L. Cero, Research, Development and Extension coordinator of the College, interviewed some barangay officials headed by its chairman Mr. Norberto S. Ersando.  More than  600 respondents were interviewed during this activity.

Lakbay aral conducted

The faculty and staff of the College of Engineering and Information Technology held its annual Lakbay Aral on 3-5 May 2012. The group led by Dean Aileen V. Rocillo first visited the Nueva Vizcaya State University in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya.

Dr. Orland P. Espiritu, vice president for Research, Extension and Training, gave the welcome remarks during the briefing facilitated by Dr. Cecilia H. Delos Trinos,  director of Information Promotion and Public Relations Center. The group toured the research laboratories, experimental areas, and the e-Laboratory of the university.

After NVSU, the CEIT family brought food items to the residents of Bangaan Village and admired the rice terraces of Banaue, Ifugao, went hiking to see the hanging coffins, burial cave and Sumaging cave of Sagada, Mt. Province, shopped for pasalubong at the strawberry farm of La Trinidad, Benguet and finally, did more shopping in Baguio City.

Outstanding AEs

CEIT congratulates the two faculty members of the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering for the recognition given to them by the Philippine Society of Agricultural Engineers.

Dr. Leyma L. Cero was selected as "Outstanding Agricultural Engineer in Agricultural Engineering Education" while Dr. Ruel M. Mojica was adjudged "Outstanding Agricultural Engineer in Postharvest Technology and Food Engineering".

Dr. Cero is also the College MIS officer while Dr. Mojica is the director of the National Coffee Research, Development and Extension Center.

CEIT produces 262 graduates

A total of 262 students from the College of Engineering and Information Technology will graduate today during the 90th Commencement Exercises of the Cavite State University at the Gov. Ayong Maliksi Provincial Gymnasium, Trece Martires City. Leading this batch are the 23 honor graduates (19 cum laude and 4 with distinction) from the 10 degree and 8 non-degree program offerings of the College.

Hon. Juanito Victor C. Remulla Jr., governor of the province of Cavite, is the guest of honor and commencement speaker.

College profs, biogas training speakers

Drs. David L. Cero, Camilo A. Polinga and Prof. Jaime Q. Dilidili of the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering and Engrs. Rico C. Asuncion and Renato  B. Cubilla of the Department of Civil Engineering served as resource persons during the 6th National Training Course on Biogas Technology held at the Hostel Tropicana, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite on 23-26 April 2012.

The training was attended by 22 participants from different Affiliated Renewable Energy Centers (ARECs) and local government units throughout the country. It was sponsored by the Department of Energy and Cavite State University.

CEIT meets with barangay officials

College officials led by Dean Aileen V. Rocillo and Research, Development and Extension (RDE) coordinator Dr. David L. Cero visited Barangay Alulod in Indang, Cavite on 25 April 2012 for some exploratory talks regarding the extension program of the College.

Based on the consultation meeting with LGU-Indang officials on 23 April 2012, Barangay Alulod was identified as the target community for the program.  The group also discussed the schedule of the community needs assessment and requested the assistance of the barangay in the conduct of the survey.

Department chairpersons, unit RDE coordinators and student leaders of the College also attended the meeting.

Consultation meeting with LGU-Indang held

The dean of the College of Engineering and Information Technology, Prof. Aileen V. Rocillo, together with the department chairpersons and other College faculty members met with the officials of the  Municipality of Indang headed by Vice Mayor Perfecto Fidel on 23 April 2012.

The group presented its plan to strengthen its extension program outside the campus and solicited the assistance of the local government unit and  ABC president Mr. Sotero Ramos in the identification of a recipient  barangay.  One major criteria considered is the population size of the target community. The LGU expressed support to the College in tapping organizations that could provide assistance to its extension program.

New Electronics Engineers

Five graduates of the Electronics and Communications Engineering program passed the Electronics Engineer Licensure Examination given by the Professional Regulation Commission on 11-12 April 2012. They are Lorena P. Diesta, Riced Jean E. Reyes, Arlene B. Rollo, Nonette Kim R. Seneriz and Merven B. Tuvillo.

Cavite State University attained 62.50% (5 out of 8) passing rate while the national average is 53.55% (1,439 out of 2,687).

  • Mr. Reynaldo Villanueva, fourth year agricultural engineering student, was elected vice president of the Central Student Government (CSG) of Cavite State University on 6 March 2012.  Meanwhile, Mr. Gee-Jay Bartolome, third year agricultural engineering student, was elected president of the CEIT Student Council for SY 2012-2013.
  • Senior electronics and communications engineering and computer engineering students attended the Mobile Robotics using Arduino Microcontroller at the CEIT Conference Room, Cavite State University on 8 March 2012.

Congratulations

Mr. Gerry M. Castillo graduated with the degree of Master in Management at the Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) on 23 March 2012.

He is an alumnus of Cavite State University (BS in Industrial Engineering) and a faculty member of the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering. In addition to teaching Mathematics, Industrial Organization and Management, and Engineering Economy, he also takes charge of the publication of the DAFE Newsletter.

CE students participate in medical mission


Led by their adviser, Engr. Larry E. Rocela, the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers Cavite State University – Student Chapter (PICE-CvSU SC) participated in the medical and dental mission sponsored by PICE Cavite Chapter held in Brgy. San Roque, Naic, Cavite on 17 February, 2012. Seven civil engineering students volunteered to assist.

The medical and dental mission was held in the covered court of Kingsway Christian Academe of Naic. A total of 248 patients from San Roque and nearby barangays availed of the free services, 152 of them were medical patients, 68 were dental patients and 38 of them underwent free electrocardiogram (ECG) test. The services included blood pressure test, ECG test, dental services and doctor counseling. Free medicines were also provided to the patients.

Aside from assisting the patients and other officials, PICE CvSU-SC documented the whole event which was part of the birthday celebration of the newly elected PICE Cavite Chapter president, Engr. Guillermo M. Telmo.

Service awardees honored


Cavite State University honored its service awardees and retirees during the 106th Foundation Day Recognition Program held at the University Quadrangle on 29 February.

Honorable Mayor Luis A. Ferrer IV of General Trias, Cavite delivered his message on the theme: Strengthening Public-Private Partnership for Sustained Leadership in the Region.

Eight of the more than 60 awardees are from the College of Engineering and Information Technology, namely: Aileen A. Ardina, Rhodora V. Nuestro and Bienvenido C. Sarmiento for their 10 years of service; Engr. Marcelino A. Dagasdas Jr., Marivic G. Dizon, Engr. Ronald P. Peña and Engr. Efren R. Rocillo for their 15 years of service; and Dr. Camilo A. Polinga for his 25 years of service.

Wreath laying at the Don Severino de las Alas Monument, ecumenical thanksgiving service, students’ hours and the faculty and employees night also highlighted the foundation day celebration.

CEIT welcomes Dr. Tallada


The CEIT family welcomes its newest faculty member in the person of Dr. Jasper G. Tallada, a Balik Scientist of the Department of Science and Technology.

Dr. Tallada worked as a research assistant at IRRI for almost five years and a faculty member and department chairperson at the College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology, UPLB. He was a research associate at Kansas State University and prior to his assignment as DOST-BSP grantee, a research engineer at the US Department of Agriculture - Agricultural Research Service, Manhattan, Kansas where he worked and published several papers on Near Infrared (NIR) spectroscopy, machine vision, air quality and related fields. He is also into computer programming, developing database systems, mathematical modeling, and establishing hardware and software systems for analog and digital electronics applications.

Sir Jay finished BS in Agricultural Engineering (Agricultural Process Engineering and Technology) at UPLB; Master of Engineering Science in Development Technology – Agricultural Engineering at the International Development Technology Centre, Faculty of Engineering, University of Melbourne, Australia; and PhD in Agricultural Sciences – Agricultural Engineering at the United Graduate School for Agricultural Sciences, Kagoshima University through the Monbukagakusho Scholarship of the Japanese Government.

Dr. Tallada is the leader of a PCAARRD-DOST-funded project on development of an NIR spectroscopy instrument. He can be reached at the National Coffee Research, Development and Extension Center.

Echo seminar on module writing conducted


The College of Engineering and Information Technology resumed its seminar series by holding the Echo Seminar on Module Writing at the CEIT Conference Room on 16 February 2012 at 4-6 p.m.  The activity aimed to share with the faculty members the presentations given during the Seminar-Workshop on Module Writing held on 19 October and 2 November 2011 which was attended by representatives from the different colleges and campuses of the University.
Mr. Willie C. Buclatin and Prof. Aileen V. Rocillo, chairperson of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Technology and dean of the College, respectively, discussed the following topics: Instructional Modules Leveling-off, Clear and Effective Use of Language, and Visual Design.  Dr. Leyma L. Cero, member of the University Textbook and Publications Board, explained the functions and implementing guidelines of the Board as well as the criteria for evaluation of modules and laboratory manuals. In the open forum, issues on publication of instructional materials were raised and clarified.
Dr. David L. Cero, coordinator of the College for Research, Development and Extension in cooperation with the RDE unit coordinators, facilitated the conduct of the seminar series.

AEs, 2nd runner-up in PAEStigan

The Cavite State University (CvSU) team bagged the second runner-up in the PAEStigan: The 2nd Inter-Luzon State Colleges and Universities PAES (Philippine Agricultural Engineering Standards) Quiz Contest.

The contest was held at the Electrical Engineering Building, University of the Philippines Los Baños,    College, Laguna on 28 January 2012. Fifth year agricultural engineering students, namely: Kelvin      Michael Crystal, Loriel Yala and Analyn Sagana composed the CvSU team. They were accompanied by Engr. Ervin F. Papa as coach.
Out of 15 participating state colleges and universities, the Camarines Norte State College, Benguet State University and CvSU emerged as the champion, 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up and were awarded with trophies and cash prizes amounting to P50,000, P30,000 and P20,000, respectively.
Also, Loriel Yala topped the written examination and was awarded with a medal.

The UP Society of Agricultural Engineering Students (UP SAGES), in partnership with the Philippine Society of Agricultural Engineers-Region IV Chapter (PSAE-IV), Agricultural Machinery Testing and Evaluation Center (AMTEC), and the Institute of Agricultural Engineering (CEAT-IAE), sponsored the activity. The activity aimed to: 1) challenge the proficiency of agricultural engineering students with the Philippine Agricultural Engineering Standards (PAES), 2) expose the students to the actual application and development of these standards, and 3) promote camaraderie between and among participants.

2 programs, awarded Level III status

The Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), Inc. awarded two of the curricular program offerings of the College of Engineering and Information Technology with Level III accreditation status.  These are BS Agricultural Engineering and BS Civil Engineering.
The BS Computer Engineering program will be re-visited in the areas of Curriculum, Library and Administration to qualify for the Level III status. BS Computer Science and BS Information Technology were awarded Level II Re-accredited and Level I Accredited status, respectively. Meanwhile,  the BS Electrical Engineering program received the Candidate status.
The Level III accredited programs will undergo the second phase of evaluation before the year ends.
The accreditation survey visit to the six programs of the College and 10 other programs of the University was held on 6-8 December 2011.
