Faculty and Staff Development

  • Dr. Leyma L. Cero, professor from the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering and Regional Management Information Service coordinator of the Southern Tagalong  Agriculture and Resources Research and Development Consortium (STARRDEC), attended the Techno Gabay Program Evaluation, Planning Workshop and Cross Visit  in Negros Occidental, Iloilo, Guimaras and Aklan on 9-13 January.
  • Architects Christine Mariz C. Gonzales, Elda Magna G. Libut, Epitacio A. Olegario Jr. and Fe D. Sapinit from the Department of Civil Engineering attended the 11th Annual Conference of Architectural Researchers  and  Educators (ACARE) at the De la Salle University – DasmariƱas, Cavite on 26-27 January.
  • Engr. Edison E. Mojica, instructor from the Department of Computer and Electronics Engineering (DCEE), attended the Seminar on Substation Engineering and Design at the Multivector Review and Training Center, Manila on  29 January.
  • Engr. Michael T. Costa, Ms. Poinsettia A. Vida, Mr. Bienvenido C. Sarmiento and Ms. Emeline C. Guevarra from DCEE attended the Seminar in Ethical Issues on Technology Management at TUP on 13 February.
  • Ms. Poinsettia A. Vida was a resource speaker in the Invent a School Program (DOST) at the Cavite Science High School, Maragondon, Cavite on 16-17 February.
  • Mr. Mark S. CaƱete and Ms. Nemilyn A. Fadchar from DCEE attended the Seminar on Data Acquisition and Real World Applications at Marriott Hotel, Pasay City on 17 February.
  • Engr. Edison Mojica attended the 15th National Student Convention and Mega Seminar at the Mapua Institute of Technology on 17-19 February.
  • Mr. Willie C. Buclatin, Ms. Joyce P. Alcazar and Ms. Karen Lyn Costelo from the Department of Industrial  Engineering and Technology attended the 9th PIIE National Congress at Le Pavillion Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City on 18 February.
  • Dr. Camilo A. Polinga served as training manager and facilitator during the iSchools Laboratory Management Training Rollout and Web Development Training Rollout for Regions 7&8 Cluster at the Visayas State University on 8-12 and 20-26 February, respectively. He also attended the iSchools Project Closeout 2 at the Development Academy of the Philippines  Convention Center on 27-29 February.

CEIT welcomes Dr. Tallada


The CEIT family welcomes its newest faculty member in the person of Dr. Jasper G. Tallada, a Balik Scientist of the Department of Science and Technology.

Dr. Tallada worked as a research assistant at IRRI for almost five years and a faculty member and department chairperson at the College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology, UPLB. He was a research associate at Kansas State University and prior to his assignment as DOST-BSP grantee, a research engineer at the US Department of Agriculture - Agricultural Research Service, Manhattan, Kansas where he worked and published several papers on Near Infrared (NIR) spectroscopy, machine vision, air quality and related fields. He is also into computer programming, developing database systems, mathematical modeling, and establishing hardware and software systems for analog and digital electronics applications.

Sir Jay finished BS in Agricultural Engineering (Agricultural Process Engineering and Technology) at UPLB; Master of Engineering Science in Development Technology – Agricultural Engineering at the International Development Technology Centre, Faculty of Engineering, University of Melbourne, Australia; and PhD in Agricultural Sciences – Agricultural Engineering at the United Graduate School for Agricultural Sciences, Kagoshima University through the Monbukagakusho Scholarship of the Japanese Government.

Dr. Tallada is the leader of a PCAARRD-DOST-funded project on development of an NIR spectroscopy instrument. He can be reached at the National Coffee Research, Development and Extension Center.

Echo seminar on module writing conducted


The College of Engineering and Information Technology resumed its seminar series by holding the Echo Seminar on Module Writing at the CEIT Conference Room on 16 February 2012 at 4-6 p.m.  The activity aimed to share with the faculty members the presentations given during the Seminar-Workshop on Module Writing held on 19 October and 2 November 2011 which was attended by representatives from the different colleges and campuses of the University.
Mr. Willie C. Buclatin and Prof. Aileen V. Rocillo, chairperson of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Technology and dean of the College, respectively, discussed the following topics: Instructional Modules Leveling-off, Clear and Effective Use of Language, and Visual Design.  Dr. Leyma L. Cero, member of the University Textbook and Publications Board, explained the functions and implementing guidelines of the Board as well as the criteria for evaluation of modules and laboratory manuals. In the open forum, issues on publication of instructional materials were raised and clarified.
Dr. David L. Cero, coordinator of the College for Research, Development and Extension in cooperation with the RDE unit coordinators, facilitated the conduct of the seminar series.
