Academic policies and guidelines reviewed

The College of Engineering and Information Technology revised its academic policies and guidelines after the  review conducted by the committee created by Engr. Efren R. Rocillo, Assistant College Dean.

The Review Committee chaired by Engr. Marcelino A. Dagasdas Jr. presented the results of their review on 25 October 2011 at the College Conference Room. Dr. Ma. Agnes P. Nuestro, Vice President for Academic Affairs, graced the occasion and challenged the group to continue the commitment in serving the University’s clientele.

The following are the areas reviewed:

  • Vision, Mission College Goals, Academic Requirements and Conduct of Examinations - Dr. Marilyn M. Escobar
  • CEIT Library, Use and Maintenance of Facilities and Equipment, University Computer Center  - Engr. Michael T. Costa
  • Student Research (Design Project/Thesis) - Engr. Cesar C. Carriaga

Profs attend module writing seminar-workshop

Prof.  Aileen V.  Rocillo, Chairperson of the Department of Information Technology, Engr. Marcelino A. Dagasdas Jr., Chairperson of the Department of Civil  Engineering, and Mr. Willie C. Buclatin, Chairperson of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Technology, participated in the Seminar-Workshop on Module Writing on 19 October 2011.

The activity, which was sponsored by the University Textbook and Publications Board, aimed to equip the participants with the knowledge and skills in preparing a module and hoped to encourage more faculty members to write modules for instruction. It was attended by faculty members from the different colleges and campuses of the University.
 
The seminar topics, namely: Instructional Design and Module Writing, Clear and Effective Use of Language, and Developing Instructional Material as Part of the Module, were discussed by Dr. Alexander G. Flor from the UP Open University, Dr. Benjamina Paula G. Flor and Prof. Jon Paul F.  Maligalig from the College of Development Communication, UP Los Baños, respectively.

Dr. Leyma L. Cero, professor from the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering, served as one of the facilitators as member of the Board. The workshop outputs will be presented during the second day of the activity on 2 November 2011.

  • To Mike Jerson Mojica  for passing the Master Electrician Licensure Examination given by the Professional Regulation Commission in September 2011.
  • To Mr. Kenneth John Villafria  for passing the Electrical Engineer Licensure Examination given by the PRC on  10-11 September 2011.

Student Activities

  • Industrial engineering students attended the Southern Tagalog Industrial Engineering Seminar at the University of the Philippines -Los Baňos on 3 September  2011.
  • Civil engineering students (third to fifth year) attended the 2011 National CE Symposium at the Villamor Hall, University of the Philippines, Diliman on 9 September 2011.
  • Selected civil engineering students, namely: Ma. Eunice Siena, Dennis Lunday, Edmond Tulipan, Joe Mark   Del Rosario, Chester Carlo Brizuela, and Renz Erick Delgado, participated in the  2011 National Civil Engineering Quiz at  GT-Toyota Asian Center Auditorium, University of the Philippines - Diliman on 10 September 2011.
  • Fifth year industrial engineering students attended IEvolve: Promoting Individual Excellence Through Active Social Involvement  at the Malayan Colleges, Laguna  on 24 September 2011.
  • Selected BS Office Administration students, namely: Neil Patrick Limagui, Renzcy Diana Cervantes, and Marry Hanna Charisse Amistoso, won in the Computer Keyboarding Competition, Stenography Competition, and Ms. Corporate Attire, respectively, during the Seminar on Equipping Future Office Professionals  at CvSU Imus Campus on 30 September 2011.

CEIT prepares for accreditation

Six curricular program offerings of the College of Engineering and Information Technology will  undergo    accreditation survey visit by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), Inc. in December 2011.

These programs are:
· BS Agricultural Engineering  - Third Survey (Revisit All Areas)
· BS Civil Engineering - Third Survey
· BS Computer Engineering - Third Survey
· BS Computer Science - Second Survey (Revisit Area VI—Extension)
· BS Information Technology - First Survey (Revisit Area VI—Extension)
· BS Electrical Engineering - Preliminary Survey

Dr. Divinia C. Chavez, College Dean, has designated the task force for this activity. Dr. Marilyn M. Escobar, Quality Assurance and Accreditation Coordinator of the College, is the overall coordinator.

Faculty and Staff Development

  • Mr. Willie C. Buclatin and Ms. Mary Joyce P. Alcazar, instructors from the Department of Industrial Engineering and Technology, attended the Southern Tagalog Industrial Engineering Seminar at the University of the Philippines Los Baňos on 3 September 2011.
  • Dr. Camilo A. Polinga, Manager of the Regional ICT Center, participated in the Training on Digital Photography and Video Editing at CICT-NCC, Diliman, Quezon City on 9 September. The training was sponsored by the Commission on Information and Communications Technology.
  • Dr. Camilo A. Polinga attended the CICT-sponsored SAPOT-CMI Project Pre-Alpha Review and Orientation Seminar on Gender and Development at the Development Academy of the Philippines Convention Center, Tagaytay City on 12-13 September 2011.
  • Mr. Willie C. Buclatin, Ms. Mary Joyce P. Alcazar and Ms. Karen Lyn A. Costelo, instructors from the Department of Industrial Engineering and Technology, attended IEvolve: Promoting Individual Excellence Through Active Social Involvement  at the Malayan Colleges, Laguna on 24 September 2011.
  • Engr. Michael T. Costa, OIC of the University Computer Center, attended the Seminar on Cloud Computing at Microsoft, Lyceum Alabang on 26 September 2011.
  • Engr. Marcelino A. Dagasdas Jr., Chairman of the Department of Civil Engineering, attended the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines at Dusit Thani Hotel, Makati on 28-30 September 2011. The convention featured the 15th ASEP International Convention with the theme Safer, Smarter, Greener @15/50; the 1st ASEP Software and Computing Technology Exposition; and ASEP 50th Anniversary Gala Night. The conference aimed to improve the quality of life and the challenge to structural engineers is to “design and build safer structures in an environment of increasing hazards and risks using sophisticated and smarter technologies and approaches that promote sustainable and greener solutions”.
  • Ms. Lilia O. Torres and Jo-anne C. Nuestro, instructors form the Department of Information Technology,    attended the Seminar on Equipping Future Office Professionals  at CvSU Imus Campus on 30 September 2011.

CEIT, U Games 1st runner-up



The College of Engineering and Information Technology placed second during the University Games held on 19-23 September 2011. This year’s overall champion is the  College of Sports and Physical Education and Recreation (CSPEAR).   Silang Campus placed third. 

CSPEAR got 50 gold, 22 silver and 12 bronze medals while CEIT bagged 48 gold, 64 silver and 53 bronze medals. A total of 18 colleges and campuses participated in the various events.

In addition to the ball games, dance sports competition, cheer dance contest and Mr. and Ms. University Games, parade   competition awards were given to the following: Silang Campus (Best in Uniform), College of Arts and Sciences (Most Attended Delegation) and Carmona Campus (Most Creative Delegation).

CEIT and CSPEAR hosted this year’s U Games with the theme, Sustaining Excellence and Unity Through Sports.
