· Congratulations to Mr. Leonardo A. Estero, instructor  from the Department of Industrial Engineering and Technology (DIET), for passing the TESDA NC II (Building Wiring).
· Dr. Ruel M. Mojica, professor from the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering (DAFE) and OIC of the National Coffee Research, Development and Extension Center (NCRDEC) was  featured in the  article, A coffee roaster for farmers: letting producers in on the value chain, of the Global Review Magazine, November to December issue.

CEIT Year-end Thanksgiving Party

It’s the end of the year and the CEIT family held its thanksgiving party on 16 December. University president and former OIC of the College Dr. Divinia C. Chavez graced the event along with Dr. Ma. Agnes P. Nuestro (VP for Academic Affairs),  Dr. Luzviminda A. Rodrin (VP for   External and Business Affairs) and Dr. Mary Jane D. Tepora (Director for Administration and OIC of Human Resource Development Office).

The president thanked the group for their cooperation and hard work during the recently concluded accreditation visit by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), Inc. Likewise, the faculty and staff expressed their appreciation for the lechon given by the president for the party.
Parlor games, raffle draws, exchange of gifts and the traditional welcome to all newly hired faculty and staff of the College highlighted the year-end activity which was facilitated by the Department of Industrial Engineering and Technology.

NAW celebrated

Architecture students and faculty members celebrated the National Architecture Week (NAW) on 12-15 December 2011 at the College of Engineering and Information Technology.
Honorable Mayor Bienvenido Dimero of Indang, Cavite and the president of the United Architects of the Philippines—Cavite Chapter Arch. Calixto Kamantigue Jr. delivered their messages during the opening ceremony.
The seminar series on the third day highlighted the celebration with various speakers coming from the provincial chapter and the private contractors. Architecture students from CvSU and the National College of Science and Technology (NCST) attended the activity.

Escobar, Nuestro elected

Dr. Marilyn M. Escobar, Quality Assurance and Accreditation coordinator of the college and professor from the  Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering, was elected vice president of the Faculty  Association (FA).
Dr. Escobar served as dean of the College from 1996 to 2004 and dean of the Office of Student Affairs from 2004 to 2011.
Meanwhile, Ms. Rhodora V. Nuestro, OIC of the CEIT Industrial Automation Center and assistant professor from the Department of Industrial Engineering and Technology, was elected as the representative of the College in the FA.
Ms. Nuestro is pursuing her doctorate (Doctor of Technology) at the Technological University of the Philippines.

AACCUP visits six college programs


The Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), Inc. conducted the accreditation survey visit to six curricular program offerings of the College of Engineering and Information Technology on 6-8 December 2011.
The programs surveyed include: BS Agricultural Engineering (3rd Survey, Revisit all areas), BS Civil Engineering (3rd Survey), BS Computer Engineering (3rd Survey), BS Computer Science (2nd Survey, Revisit Area VI—Extension), BS Information Technology (1st Survey, Revisit Area VI—Extension), and BS Electrical Engineering (Preliminary Survey).
Dr. Blesila R. Ramos from Nueva Viscaya State University (NVSU),  Dr. Feliciano L. Bolisay Jr. from Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST), and Prof. Gloria L. Prellejera from Tarlac State University (TSU) led the accrediting teams for the Agricultural  Engineering,  Civil Engineering and Computer Engineering programs, respectively. Prof. Arlyn N. Angco from TSU evaluated Area VI of the Computer Science and Information Technology programs while Engr. Arnold L. Alburo from Isabela State University (ISU) evaluated the Electrical Engineering program.
Dr. Myrna Q. Mallari from TSU was the overall coordinator of the accreditation survey visit to Cavite State University. The accrediting teams also visited 10 other curricular program offerings of the university.
As of December 2011, the College has submitted 9 out of 11 undergraduate degree programs for AACCUP evaluation.

AE students win in Luzon convention


The Philippine Society of Agricultural Engineers – Pre-Professional Group Cavite State University Chapter (PSAE-PPG CvSU Chapter) received several awards during the 15th PSAE-PPG Annual Luzon Convention and 1st PSAE Bulacan Chapter Convention on 1 – 3 December 2011 at the Bulacan  Agricultural State College (BASC).
The chapter bagged the following awards: 3rd place, Tractor Parts Identification (Reynaldo Villanueva); 7th place, AE Quiz Bee (Loriel Yala and Kelvin Michael Crystal); 1st runner-up, Ms. PSAE-PPG and Ms. Congeniality (Alexandra Alexis Samson); 2nd runner-up, Mr. PSAE-PPG and Best in Casual Wear (Aljon Penus).
Hon. Proceso J. Alcala, Secretary of the Department of Agriculture, graced the event with the theme “Agricultural Engineering RE-EDUCATION: The Key to a Stronger AE Profession” as guest speaker. Thirty BS Agricultural Engineering students from CvSU witnessed the AE Challenge, CAD  Challenge, Tractor Driving and Hitching, Tractor Parts Identification, and Mr. and Ms. PSAE.

AVRocillo, new CEIT dean

The Board of Regents during its meeting on November 29, 2011 approved through Resolution No. 92, series of 2011 the designation of Prof. Aileen V. Rocillo as the dean of the College of Engineering and Information Technology.  
Prof. Rocillo was the chairperson of the Department of Information Technology prior to this designation. She obtained her BS in Computer Engineering from Adamson University and MEng in Electronics and Communications Engineering from De la Salle University. She has earned PhD units in Information Technology from Hannam University, South Korea.

  • Ms. Poinsettia A. Vida, Instructor from the Department of Computer and Electronics Engineering, attended the Regional Seminar-Workshop on Technical Project Development on 8- 11 November 2011 at the Romblon State University, Odiongan, Romblon.
  • Engr. Marcelino A. Dagasdas Jr., Chairperson of the Department of Civil Engineering, attended the 37th PICE National Convention and Annual Election on 17-19 November 2011 at the Atrium/Grand Caprice Restaurant and Convention Center, Limketkai Center, Cagayan de Oro City. The convention included presentations of different construction technologies, services and building materials as well as student activities.
  • Prof. Conrado M. Baltazar and  Mr. Gerry M. Castillo from the Department of  Agricultural and Food  Engineering participated in the Awarding of Certificate for OJT as Local Consultant for the Manufacturing Productivity Extension Program on 18 November 2011 at the DOST-CALABARZON, Los Baños, Laguna.
  • Ms. Emeline C. Guevarra, Head of the Hardware and Maintenance Section of the University Computer Center and Instructor at the Department of Computer and Electronics Engineering, represented the Southern Tagalog Agriculture and Resources Research and Development Consortium (STARRDEC) at the IPv6   Training for DOST Network Administrators on 23-24 November 2011 at the Advanced Science and         Technology Institute (ASTI), UP Diliman, Quezon City. The training was sponsored by the Department of   Science and Technology thru the eDOST-INFRA Project.

New CE board passers

The College of Engineering and Information Technology congratulates the successful examinees of the Civil Engineer Licensure Examination given by the Profession Regulation Commission in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi and Tacloban this November 2011.

The new professional civil engineers are Mark Kane L. Bergonio, Samuel B. Esteleydis, Alvin S. Mendoza and Bryan Josef B. Rueda.  Cavite State University obtained 17.39% while the national passing is 34.28% (1,770 out of 5,163 takers).

CE Week celebrated

The Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers Cavite    State University – Student Chapter (PICE CvSU – SC) together with the Department of Civil Engineering (DCE) celebrated the National Civil Engineering Week on 14-19 November 2011 with the theme, Importance of Civil Engineering Profession in Nation Building. PICE student chapters from Emilio Aguinaldo College – Cavite and Lyceum University of the Philippines – Cavite also participated in the activities.

On the first day, Engr. Ignacio B. Zaragoza Jr., President of PICE Cavite Chapter, gave an inspirational talk on the theme of the celebration. Engr. Marcelino A. Dagasdas Jr., DCE Chairman, discussed Post Tensioning while Engr. Arnel Taruc talked on the Role of Civil Engineering in Nation Building. Engr. Dindo Mojica discussed the Techniques in Passing the CE Licensure Examination.

During the Civil Engineering Symposium entitled “CONVERSE 2011: We Construct and InnOvate for Nation’s DeVElopment thRough RighteouS ServicE”, Engr. Renato B. Cubilla talked on Geographic Information System while Engr. Roslyn Peña discussed Construction Project Management.  The Company Talk after the seminars featured Pacific Paint (Boysen) Philippines, Inc. and Blue Ocean Chemtrade, Inc. which introduced their mission and vision and shared some tehnologies regarding civil engineering and construction management.

Profs complete graduate studies

The College of Engineering and Information Technology congratulates its four faculty members who have recently completed their graduate studies.
Mr. Danielito R. Escaño graduated with the degree of  Master of Engineering  major  in  Electrical Engineering during the 89th Mid-Year Commencement Exercises of the Cavite State University on  17 November 2011 at the  University Quadrangle. Mr. Escaño teaches automotive technology at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Technology.

Ms. Emeline C. Guevarra and Poinsettia A. Vida completed their Master of Science in   Electrical Engineering major in Computer Engineering as of October 2011 at the Technological University of the Philippines (TUP). Ms. Guevarra is the head of the Hardware and Maintenance Unit of the University Compute Center while Ms. Vida is the College Job    Placement Officer.  Both are instructors at the  Department of  Computer and Electronics   Engineering.  Mr. Bienvenido C. Sarmiento, who is also from the same department, finished his Master of Engineering major in Instrumentation and Computer Engineering in October 2011 at TUP.

iSchools Project Closeout

The  Regional  Information and  Communications  Technology Center based at the College of Engineering and   Information Technology and managed by Dr. Camilo A. Polinga hosted the iSchools Project Closeout for the Southern Tagalog Cluster on 3-5 November 2011 at the Development Academy of the Philippines Convention Center, Tagaytay City.

The activity aimed to ensure completeness of all required project information, document and evaluate lessons learned and best practices, prepare the recipients for the operation phase, and manage the handholding between the Department of Education ICT coordinators and SUC partners.  Drs. Camilo A. Polinga and Leyma L. Cero served as workshop facilitators during the three-day activity.

The iSchools Project aims to contribute to the efforts of the Philippine government in bridging the digital divide by developing an Educational Digital Network that will provide all public high school teachers and students access to relevant digital content and applications in education that they can use to enhance effective learning. CvSU is one of the partner SUCs commissioned by the then Commission on ICT to implement the iSchools Project in selected provinces of the Southern Tagalog Region.

  • Engrs. Cesar C. Carriaga and Jaykie Homer P. Hernandez from the Department of Agricultural Engineering accompanied the fifth year agricultural engineering students to the Agrilink, Foodlink and Aqualink at the World Trade Center, Manila on 6-8 October 2011.
  • Arch. Elda Magda G. Libut, Epitacio A. Olegario Jr. and Christine Mariz C. Gonzales from the Department of Civil Engineering participated in the Seminars on Architecture and Human Rights during the World Day of Architecture Celebration held in Cavite State University on 8 October 2011. The event was sponsored by the United Architects of the Philippines Student Auxiliary (UAPSA) CvSU Chapter.
  • Dr. Leyma L. Cero (College MIS Officer) and Ms. Florence M. Banasihan (College Registrar) attended the CHED-sponsored Training on Electronic Verification and Certification System at Dela Salle University,Dasmarinas, Cavite on 20 October 2011.
  • Dr. Camilo A. Polinga (Chairperson, Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering) attended the meeting of AFMECH-TWG on Extension and Training at the NAFC, Diliman, Quezon City on 21 October 2011.
  • Prof. Conrado M. Baltazar and Mr. Gerry M. Castillo from the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering attended the Third Party Regional Technical Evaluation Committee Meeting at DOST-CALABARZON, Laguna on 24 October 2011.
  • Dr. Camilo A. Polinga, Manager of the Regional ICT Center, attended the meeting of the Cavite ICT Council at the Provincial Capitol, Trece Martires City, Cavite on 28 October 2011.

Academic policies and guidelines reviewed

The College of Engineering and Information Technology revised its academic policies and guidelines after the  review conducted by the committee created by Engr. Efren R. Rocillo, Assistant College Dean.

The Review Committee chaired by Engr. Marcelino A. Dagasdas Jr. presented the results of their review on 25 October 2011 at the College Conference Room. Dr. Ma. Agnes P. Nuestro, Vice President for Academic Affairs, graced the occasion and challenged the group to continue the commitment in serving the University’s clientele.

Profs attend module writing seminar-workshop

Prof.  Aileen V.  Rocillo, Chairperson of the Department of Information Technology, Engr. Marcelino A. Dagasdas Jr., Chairperson of the Department of Civil  Engineering, and Mr. Willie C. Buclatin, Chairperson of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Technology, participated in the Seminar-Workshop on Module Writing on 19 October 2011.

The activity, which was sponsored by the University Textbook and Publications Board, aimed to equip the participants with the knowledge and skills in preparing a module and hoped to encourage more faculty members to write modules for instruction. It was attended by faculty members from the different colleges and campuses of the University.
 
The seminar topics, namely: Instructional Design and Module Writing, Clear and Effective Use of Language, and Developing Instructional Material as Part of the Module, were discussed by Dr. Alexander G. Flor from the UP Open University, Dr. Benjamina Paula G. Flor and Prof. Jon Paul F.  Maligalig from the College of Development Communication, UP Los Baños, respectively.

Dr. Leyma L. Cero, professor from the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering, served as one of the facilitators as member of the Board. The workshop outputs will be presented during the second day of the activity on 2 November 2011.

  • Civil engineering students (third to fifth year) attended the 2011 National CE Symposium at the Villamor Hall, University of the Philippines, Diliman on 9 September 2011.
  • Selected civil engineering students, namely: Ma. Eunice Siena, Dennis Lunday, Edmond Tulipan, Joe Mark   Del Rosario, Chester Carlo Brizuela, and Renz Erick Delgado, participated in the  2011 National Civil Engineering Quiz at  GT-Toyota Asian Center Auditorium, University of the Philippines - Diliman on 10 September 2011.
  • Fifth year industrial engineering students attended IEvolve: Promoting Individual Excellence Through Active Social Involvement  at the Malayan Colleges, Laguna  on 24 September 2011.
  • Selected BS Office Administration students, namely: Neil Patrick Limagui, Renzcy Diana Cervantes, and Marry Hanna Charisse Amistoso, won in the Computer Keyboarding Competition, Stenography Competition, and Ms. Corporate Attire, respectively, during the Seminar on Equipping Future Office Professionals  at CvSU Imus Campus on 30 September 2011.

CEIT prepares for accreditation

Six curricular program offerings of the College of Engineering and Information Technology will  undergo    accreditation survey visit by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), Inc. in December 2011.

These programs are:

  • Dr. Camilo A. Polinga attended the CICT-sponsored SAPOT-CMI Project Pre-Alpha Review and Orientation Seminar on Gender and Development at the Development Academy of the Philippines Convention Center, Tagaytay City on 12-13 September 2011.

  • Engr. Michael T. Costa, OIC of the University Computer Center, attended the Seminar on Cloud Computing at Microsoft, Lyceum Alabang on 26 September 2011.
  • Engr. Marcelino A. Dagasdas Jr., Chairman of the Department of Civil Engineering, attended the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines at Dusit Thani Hotel, Makati on 28-30 September 2011. The convention featured the 15th ASEP International Convention with the theme Safer, Smarter, Greener @15/50; the 1st ASEP Software and Computing Technology Exposition; and ASEP 50th Anniversary Gala Night. The conference aimed to improve the quality of life and the challenge to structural engineers is to “design and build safer structures in an environment of increasing hazards and risks using sophisticated and smarter technologies and approaches that promote sustainable and greener solutions”.
  • Ms. Lilia O. Torres and Jo-anne C. Nuestro, instructors form the Department of Information Technology,    attended the Seminar on Equipping Future Office Professionals  at CvSU Imus Campus on 30 September 2011.

CEIT, U Games 1st runner-up



The College of Engineering and Information Technology placed second during the University Games held on 19-23 September 2011. This year’s overall champion is the  College of Sports and Physical Education and Recreation (CSPEAR).   Silang Campus placed third. 

CSPEAR got 50 gold, 22 silver and 12 bronze medals while CEIT bagged 48 gold, 64 silver and 53 bronze medals. A total of 18 colleges and campuses participated in the various events.

In addition to the ball games, dance sports competition, cheer dance contest and Mr. and Ms. University Games, parade   competition awards were given to the following: Silang Campus (Best in Uniform), College of Arts and Sciences (Most Attended Delegation) and Carmona Campus (Most Creative Delegation).

CEIT and CSPEAR hosted this year’s U Games with the theme, Sustaining Excellence and Unity Through Sports.
