Faculty and Staff Development


· Congratulations to Mr. Leonardo A. Estero, instructor  from the Department of Industrial Engineering and Technology (DIET), for passing the TESDA NC II (Building Wiring).
· Dr. Ruel M. Mojica, professor from the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering (DAFE) and OIC of the National Coffee Research, Development and Extension Center (NCRDEC) was  featured in the  article, A coffee roaster for farmers: letting producers in on the value chain, of the Global Review Magazine, November to December issue.
· Mr. Willie C. Buclatin, Ms. Mary Joyce Alcazar and Ms. Karen Lyn Costelo, instructors from DIET, attended the 2nd PIIE Regional Congress at SM Sta. Rosa, Laguna on 11 December.
· Dr. Leyma L. Cero, professor from DAFE and Regional Management Information Service coordinator of the Southern Tagalong Agriculture and Resources Research and Development Consortium (STARRDEC), attended the Joint RACO-RTG-RMIS Coordinators' Meeting at Splash Mountain Resort, Los BaƱos, Laguna on 12-14 December.

Student Activities

· Industrial engineering students attended the 2nd PIIE Regional Congress at SM Sta. Rosa, Laguna on 11 December.
· Computer engineering students held their COESS Outreach Program at the Valley Cathedral Children’s Home, Naic, Cavite on 15 December.

CEIT Year-end Thanksgiving Party

It’s the end of the year and the CEIT family held its thanksgiving party on 16 December. University president and former OIC of the College Dr. Divinia C. Chavez graced the event along with Dr. Ma. Agnes P. Nuestro (VP for Academic Affairs),  Dr. Luzviminda A. Rodrin (VP for   External and Business Affairs) and Dr. Mary Jane D. Tepora (Director for Administration and OIC of Human Resource Development Office).

The president thanked the group for their cooperation and hard work during the recently concluded accreditation visit by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), Inc. Likewise, the faculty and staff expressed their appreciation for the lechon given by the president for the party.
Parlor games, raffle draws, exchange of gifts and the traditional welcome to all newly hired faculty and staff of the College highlighted the year-end activity which was facilitated by the Department of Industrial Engineering and Technology.

NAW celebrated

Architecture students and faculty members celebrated the National Architecture Week (NAW) on 12-15 December 2011 at the College of Engineering and Information Technology.
Honorable Mayor Bienvenido Dimero of Indang, Cavite and the president of the United Architects of the Philippines—Cavite Chapter Arch. Calixto Kamantigue Jr. delivered their messages during the opening ceremony.
The seminar series on the third day highlighted the celebration with various speakers coming from the provincial chapter and the private contractors. Architecture students from CvSU and the National College of Science and Technology (NCST) attended the activity.

Escobar, Nuestro elected

Dr. Marilyn M. Escobar, Quality Assurance and Accreditation coordinator of the college and professor from the  Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering, was elected vice president of the Faculty  Association (FA).
Dr. Escobar served as dean of the College from 1996 to 2004 and dean of the Office of Student Affairs from 2004 to 2011.
Meanwhile, Ms. Rhodora V. Nuestro, OIC of the CEIT Industrial Automation Center and assistant professor from the Department of Industrial Engineering and Technology, was elected as the representative of the College in the FA.
Ms. Nuestro is pursuing her doctorate (Doctor of Technology) at the Technological University of the Philippines.

AACCUP visits six college programs


The Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), Inc. conducted the accreditation survey visit to six curricular program offerings of the College of Engineering and Information Technology on 6-8 December 2011.
The programs surveyed include: BS Agricultural Engineering (3rd Survey, Revisit all areas), BS Civil Engineering (3rd Survey), BS Computer Engineering (3rd Survey), BS Computer Science (2nd Survey, Revisit Area VI—Extension), BS Information Technology (1st Survey, Revisit Area VI—Extension), and BS Electrical Engineering (Preliminary Survey).
Dr. Blesila R. Ramos from Nueva Viscaya State University (NVSU),  Dr. Feliciano L. Bolisay Jr. from Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST), and Prof. Gloria L. Prellejera from Tarlac State University (TSU) led the accrediting teams for the Agricultural  Engineering,  Civil Engineering and Computer Engineering programs, respectively. Prof. Arlyn N. Angco from TSU evaluated Area VI of the Computer Science and Information Technology programs while Engr. Arnold L. Alburo from Isabela State University (ISU) evaluated the Electrical Engineering program.
Dr. Myrna Q. Mallari from TSU was the overall coordinator of the accreditation survey visit to Cavite State University. The accrediting teams also visited 10 other curricular program offerings of the university.
As of December 2011, the College has submitted 9 out of 11 undergraduate degree programs for AACCUP evaluation.

AE students win in Luzon convention


The Philippine Society of Agricultural Engineers – Pre-Professional Group Cavite State University Chapter (PSAE-PPG CvSU Chapter) received several awards during the 15th PSAE-PPG Annual Luzon Convention and 1st PSAE Bulacan Chapter Convention on 1 – 3 December 2011 at the Bulacan  Agricultural State College (BASC).
The chapter bagged the following awards: 3rd place, Tractor Parts Identification (Reynaldo Villanueva); 7th place, AE Quiz Bee (Loriel Yala and Kelvin Michael Crystal); 1st runner-up, Ms. PSAE-PPG and Ms. Congeniality (Alexandra Alexis Samson); 2nd runner-up, Mr. PSAE-PPG and Best in Casual Wear (Aljon Penus).
Hon. Proceso J. Alcala, Secretary of the Department of Agriculture, graced the event with the theme “Agricultural Engineering RE-EDUCATION: The Key to a Stronger AE Profession” as guest speaker. Thirty BS Agricultural Engineering students from CvSU witnessed the AE Challenge, CAD  Challenge, Tractor Driving and Hitching, Tractor Parts Identification, and Mr. and Ms. PSAE.

AVRocillo, new CEIT dean

The Board of Regents during its meeting on November 29, 2011 approved through Resolution No. 92, series of 2011 the designation of Prof. Aileen V. Rocillo as the dean of the College of Engineering and Information Technology.  
Prof. Rocillo was the chairperson of the Department of Information Technology prior to this designation. She obtained her BS in Computer Engineering from Adamson University and MEng in Electronics and Communications Engineering from De la Salle University. She has earned PhD units in Information Technology from Hannam University, South Korea.
